The Great Migration & Its Consequences: The Reset
WyvernChat's next big move, and the future ahead.
Howdy folks,
I’ve got some important news to share, so buckle up—it’s a bit of a wild ride. WyvernChat is about to undergo some big changes, and while I’ve done everything in my power to avoid this outcome, it’s the best path forward to ensure the platform remains sustainable, fast, and affordable to maintain.
What’s Happening?
To prepare for the future of WyvernChat, we’ll be resetting the following:
Likes (your reactions to content)
Contact List (your list of friends or connections)
Chat Logs (your message history)
Now, before you start panicking, here’s what will not be affected:
Your User Personas
All of your Characters
Lorebooks
Settings Presets
Sprite Sets
Most importantly, your Chat Numbers/Statistics
This means the features that make WyvernChat uniquely yours—the things you’ve poured time and creativity into—will remain intact.
Why This is Happening?
This reset was completely unexpected to me, and I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to find a way to migrate without data loss. Unfortunately, after a lot of effort, it’s become clear that this is the best solution for the long-term health of WyvernChat.
We’re moving to a faster, more efficient platform that will also significantly lower costs. No changes to chatlog length, no message caps, and all of your core progress will remain untouched. I know it’s not ideal, and I truly apologize for the inconvenience, but I promise this is a step forward for a better WyvernChat experience. You have until Monday to download your current chatlogs, and any data updated after midday tomorrow (Saturday, November 23rd) will also not be carried over to the new migration.
With a little help from my friends.
We are currently going through the process of formalizing the team and coming up with a direction for the site and our new organization/entity, Wayward Wyverns Softworks. We’re obviously committed to bringing you all WyvernChat and keeping everything as free as we can! On that, our team is actively brainstorming ideas for non-related products/offerings to help fund the development of the site, and grow our team even more.
For now though, we’ve created a Patreon to help fund the team. Find it here. We plan on filling out the rewards for each tier as we grow, and any support to the team as of now will result in our undying gratitude and appreciation.
You can find our GitHub here. We’re also launching our Substack in parallel with the integration to the WyvernChat site.
Moving Forward Together
Thank you for being part of this journey. I know the reset isn’t ideal, but it’s the right choice for the future of WyvernChat. Your support and understanding means the world to me. Let’s keep growing, creating, and improving together.
As always, I’m here to listen to your feedback and concerns. Let’s ride the Wyvern into a brighter future!
Edit:
To help give people time to export their chatlogs, I’ll be extending the migration period from Monday to the end of November. You have until then to get everything exported! This also means any data saved after the 29th of November will be permalost.
This is important, seems like a positive change in the long run. If the reset is what it takes for a better, faster platform, then so be it. If I’m understanding correctly, likes, contact lists, and chat logs will reset, but core features (user personas, characters, lorebooks, etc.) are safe, right?
The chat logs resetting will probably be the toughest part for most users I assume. I'm really glad I came across this post before it was too late to back things up. Hopefully, other frequent users will catch it in time too. Anyway, thanks for the update, Nev! Looking forward to what’s next!
